Selective Eating Subtype
The selective eating subtype is a presentation of Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID) characterised by extremely picky eating based on the sensory characteristics of food. This can lead to a very limited diet, nutritional deficiencies, and social difficulties. Treatment typically involves gradual exposure to new foods, sensory integration therapy, and cognitive-behavioural techniques to reduce anxiety around eating.
